EID AL ADHA

Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the holiest celebrations in the Islamic calendar. The festival is celebrated as the faithfulness of Prophet IBRAHIM (PBUH) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to ALLAH the merciful. As the story goes, just as Prophet IBRAHIM (pbuh) was about to sacrifice his son, God intervened and provided him with a lamb to sacrifice instead.

Eid Al Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic calendar. The celebration lasts for four days and is marked by prayers, feasting, and the exchange of gifts. Muslims around the world gather in mosques and open spaces to offer prayers and listen to sermons. The day begins with a special prayer called Eid prayer, where Muslims dress in their finest clothes and offer their gratitude to God.

One of the key traditions of Eid Al Adha is the sacrifice of an animal, usually a sheep, goat, or cow. The sacrifice is performed to commemorate the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim. The meat of the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts – one part is kept by the family, another is given to friends and relatives, and the third is donated to the poor and needy.

Another important aspect of Eid Al Adha is the spirit of generosity and sharing. Muslims are encouraged to give gifts and help those in need, especially during this festive time. It is a time to forgive, reconcile, and strengthen relationships with friends and family.

In addition to the religious significance, Eid Al Adha is also a time for celebration and feasting. Families come together to prepare delicious meals and sweets, and children enjoy new clothes and toys. The festive atmosphere is enhanced by the vibrant decorations, colorful lights, and traditional music.
